Path of Discipleship

The Education Committee and others at Otterbein are offering studies throughout the week and at various times throughout the year. These are on various topics and are offered with the hope and prayer that we can all find something new to help us in our own individual paths of discipleship.

Living In Faith Everyday

Sunday mornings 10:10 to 11:00 Room 12/13
March 17 until April 28 our study is "Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple" which is also offered as a topic on Tuesday mornings led by Pastor Bruce. See Lenten Study below for description.
May 5 until June 9 - This "Irresitible" study by Andy Stanley will invite you to embrace the version of faith that, against all odds, initiated a chain of events resulting in the most significant and extensive cultural transformation the world has ever seen. We are to embrace this version if we are to be salt and light in an increasingly savorless and dark world. Sessions include: 1) Simply Resistible 2) Brand-New Agreement 3) The Bible According to Jesus 4) The Irresistible Ethic 5) What Love Requires, and 6) A New Approach

Brothers And Sisters In Christ

Sunday mornings 10:10 to 11:00 Room 8
March 10 until April 21 (Easter Sunday) our study will be "Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple" which is also offered as a topic on Tuesday mornings led by Pastor Bruce. See Lenten Study below for description.
On April 28 we will begin a five week series for “When God Doesn’t Fix It” (“Learning to walk in God’s plans instead of our own”). The presenter is Laura Story. Her life took an unexpected turn when her husband, Mark, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The news brought Laura’s dreams of a fairy-tale life to an end. Yet it also brought her a deeper intimacy with God as she turned to him and allowed him to rewrite her story. In this five session curriculum, Laura shows that while God may not fix every broken thing in our lives, he will lead us to a place where we are better because of it.

Loyal Bible Class

Sunday mornings 10:10 to 11:00 Room 9/10
We are currently studying The International Lesson Series: Uniform Series in a 6-year plan for reading and studying the Bible. The International Uniform Series believes the Bible is the record of God in Christ, the key resource for understanding the Christian faith, being under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the fellowship of His Spirit.
This Spring quarter is concentrated on the theme “Discipleship and Mission” and study of Scripture passages from Matthew, Mark, Luke, Acts, and Romans.

Tuesday Evening Study on:

Tuesdays, Feb 26 - April 2 6:30-8:00pm Room 8
This is a six session study. For nearly 15 years Randy Alcorn has been inviting readers to bring their questions regarding eternity to the scripture, study what God says there, and imagine together what Heaven will be like. In this companion to the best selling book Heaven, the author encourages and guides those who are searching, mourning, hurting, or helping to set aside time to fix our eyes on Heaven and reflect on the hope we have.
In our sessions we will: 1) examine God's promises to find out what they tell us about eternity; 2) dig into scripture to discover concrete foundations for peace about the future; and 3) consider how insights about Heaven can shape what we do right now.
Attendees will only need to bring their Bible and additional materials will be provided.

Lenten Study
Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple

Tuesdays, March 12 - April 16 10:30am Room 8
And on Sundays during LIFE and BASIC classes (March 17-April 21)
The focus of this six week study is on the life of Simon Peter. Pastor Bruce will begin on Tuesday, March 12, at 10:30am in Room 8, with the LIFE and BASIC Sunday School classes following on Sunday, March 17.
Simon Peter is, after Jesus, the single most important figure in the gospels. He's mentioned more than all of the other disciples combined. By his words and action, he sheds light on Jesus and represents each of us. The gospels shows both Peter's cowardice and his courage but Jesus saw in him what others did not: a rock on which to build his church. Simon Peter: Flawed But Faithful Disciple shows us that we are all like Peter - flawed disciples striving to be faithful. As you read and hear more about Peter, you will learn more about Jesus and yourself.
Sessions include: 1) The Call of Simon the Fisherman 2) Walking with Jesus in the Storm 3) Bedrock or Stumbling Block? 4) "I Will Not Deny You" 5) From Cowardice to Courage, and 6) The Rest of the Story.
